An improvised song
Life is an improvised song
with no premeditated words, melody, or even rhythm.
And yet we find our harmony each day;
we talk, laugh, dance, and sing.
Rain and thunder is a type of music,
and so is the chirping of birds,
the purring of cats,
and the rustling of leaves.
| Sometimes we embrace life and sing along—
or we protest it, in protest songs.
Oftentimes, we musicalize
only the parts of life that we like.
And even the painful things are romanticized
as part of the human experience.
They are lyricalized and made sense of,
like wind chimes that follow no rhythmic structure
and yet mean a lot to us, and ring true.
| Somewhere at this exact moment, a choir sings.
A young child is sung to.
